Working with people who dementia is ot easy. It can be upsetting, trying and challenging, but it can also be very rewarding.
This Communication Skills course will provide an understanding of:
- Verbal and non verbal communication
- Active listening and appropriate touching
- How to use symbolic language
- How cultural differences can affect communcation
- The link between effective communication and well-being
This course is endorsed by the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association (AHHA).
This series of 5 online courses each provide training and knowledge in different aspects of dementia. The aim is to procide and understanding of Dementia with the goal of:
- Giving you a better understanding of what it's like to live with dementia
- Make working with people affected by dementia more rewarding for yourself and them.
Training Program
This non-accredited online course is offered through our learning management system. There are 2 components to this training program:
- Online learning
- Online workbooks
Students should allow up to 20 minutes for the online learning to be completed. If you have completed Understanding Dementia: Effective Communication Online training in the past, you may be able to complete the online program in a shorter time frame.

The Understanding Dementia: Effective Communication course is a mixture of interactive modules, multiple choice questions and videos. You don't have to complete the course all at once, and can pause it so you can pick up where you left off later. Once you've successfully completed the course, you will be emailed your Certificate of Completion straight away.

Students will be assessed through the use of online workbooks to confirm knowledge has been achieved and are provided unlimited attempts to complete the Understanding Dementia: Effective Communication Online course.

- Can Centrelink pay for me?
What you need to do is register with your local Job Network Agent. Your Employment Consultant will make the booking with us on your behalf and arrange payment with us directly. Unfortunately Centrelink does not pay directly.
- Can I pay my package in instalments?
Unfortunately we cannot offer this service, full payment of course fees are required at the time of booking. The good news is that we try to always offer value for money and keep course fees affordable, so you know that you are always getting good value, especially with our package deals which offer reduced prices!
- Can you get me a job?
Although we cannot guarantee you a job, we would be delighted to refer you to an agent who may be able to assist you to find work.
- What if I have trouble with written/spoken english for a Course?
You may bring a friend along to the course or, alternatively, you can phone the National Translation service to book an interpreter. Visit the Immigration website for more information about help with translating.
- What payment methods do you accept?
Payment can be made at the time of booking using either a credit card, EFTPOS or cash. Invoices and acceptance of company cheques is by prior arrangement only.
