Childcare First Aid Entry Requirements
To enrol in the Provide and Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting, the following requirements need to be met -
- English Proficiency - You must have with suitable skills in language, numeracy and literacy for a Certificate III level course. See more information at https://www.aqf.edu.au/aqf-levels
- Technical Requirements - You will need access to a computer and a reliable internet connection.
- Physical Fitness - You must have physical ability to complete practical assessments to be eligible for a nationally accredited certificate.

Childcare First Aid Course Pre-requisites
- All students must have valid photo ID on the day of training and students require a USI number to start their training.
- Unique Student Identifier (USI) - You will need to provide your USI number. If you don't have one, you can apply for it online.
Online Pre-study Requirements
To complete your Childcare First Aid online pre-study you will need the following resources -
- PC or Mac Computer, Tablet, iPad, iPhone or Android phone
- Internet connection
- Internet browser (see below)
- Speakers or headphones
Once you have enrolled we supply you with access details to login to your learner portal so you can start straight away.
The Childcare First Aid course is a mixture of interactive modules, multiple choice questions and videos. You don't have to complete the course all at once, and can pause it so you can pick up where you left off later. Once you've successfully completed your course, you will be emailed your Certificate of Completion.
Students must complete the online pre-study assessments to be issued their certificate. If not completed within one (1) month of the training date, the course is no longer valid and student will not receive certification.
- Online Course Software
Our online courses are accessible on a wide range of devices including Windows and Mac computers, iPads, tablets, and smartphones (both Android and iPhone).
- For computers and tablets, we advise using the most recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. Please note, Microsoft Edge is not supported at this time.
- For iPhone users, the operating system should be iOS 11 or above, and Safari is the recommended browser.
- For Android users, Chrome is the recommended browser.
Childcare First Aid Assessment
Within the accredited course, students will be required to complete multiple choice questions, short answer questions and a practical assessment in English throughout the day. Students will receive lunch breaks which is not included in the up to 6 hours (depending on experience level) and please note, lunch is not provided. Students are offered multiple opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and skills throughout the course to deem them competent across the unit.
There are 4 components to this Childcare First Aid program:
- Online pre-study and assessments
- Theoretical training in the classroom (Multiple Choice & Short Answer)
- Practical training in the classroom (First Aid medical simulator manikin)
- Assessment for both knowledge and skills
This Childcare First Aid course combines plain English, videos, photos, and questioning to ensure all learners can have the best possible chance at comprehending the required knowledge and skills.
Assessments MUST be completed in English and with no further assistance. If you believe you will need assistance due to your Language, Literacy or Numeracy skills, please contact our office on info@tu.edu.au to discuss your training needs.
If a student is not successful in completing all assessments satisfactorily, they will need to rebook the Childcare First Aid course at a $50 NYC Fee.
Childcare First Aid Certification
Once successfully completed, students will be awarded the nationally accredited qualification HLTAID012 - Provide First Aid in an education and care setting, HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid & HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation within 48 hours of practical training being completed.
Certificates are issued by Training Unlimited Pty Ltd (RTO ID 20891).

Payment can be made at the time of booking using either a credit card, EFTPOS or cash. Invoices and acceptance of company cheques is by prior arrangement only.
- Do you offer the refresher course?
This is counted as a refresher course! You simply complete the course again, however you will be able to complete it quicker as you already have experience.
- When does the online prestudy need to be completed by?
If you completed the practical section less than three (3) months ago, you can simply log back onto your account by clicking “Course Login” at the top right hand corner of our website. If you forgot your login details, you can reset them or contact our Customer Service team for assistance.
Otherwise, if it has been longer than three (3) months, the course is no longer valid and you cannot receive your certification.
- When do I get my certificate?
Once successfully completed, students will be awarded the nationally accredited qualification via email within 48 hours of practical training being completed.
- When does my certificate expire?
Every 3 years you will have to complete the Childcare First Aid course again to refresh your qualification to ensure that first aid skills are current.
Childcare first aid requirements and best practicises are frequently updated so you need to complete a new course to refresh your skillset and ensure you are up to date with any changes.
You are not legally required to complete a resuscitation course each year. It is recommended, however, by the Australian Resuscitation Council. By taking a course every year, you will be able to demonstrate your resuscitation skills on a regular basis. Depending on which industry you work in, you may be required to take an annual CPR refresher course in order to comply with industry regulations or licensing requirements. Training Unlimited recommends that you do a refresher course every year so that you can keep up with any new techniques that are introduced and to ensure that you can effectively perform resuscitation.
